Bolla Rhetico's Amarone della Valpolicella Classico DOCG is a testament to the time-honored tradition and excellence of Valpolicella winemaking. This revered Amarone, celebrated as one of Italy's finest, is crafted from a meticulous selection of dried grapes, infusing the wine with unparalleled richness and complexity.
At first glance, Rhetico captivates with its deep garnet red hue, hinting at the profound intensity within. Upon nosing, a lavish bouquet unfolds, revealing luscious aromas of ripe fruit, including cherries steeped in alcohol and succulent plums, complemented by enticing notes of chocolate, tobacco, and sweet spices—a testament to its maturation in oak barrels.
On the palate, Amarone Rhetico mesmerizes with its extraordinary potency and grace. Soft yet present tannins intertwine seamlessly with balanced acidity, while intense flavors of ripe fruit, decadent chocolate, and exotic spices dance across the senses. The journey culminates in a long, persistent finish that leaves a delightful lingering aftertaste—a fitting tribute to the magnificence of Valpolicella's winemaking heritage.
Bolla Winehouse
The story of the Bolla winery is the story of a family that revolutionised the wine market in the last century to become today one of the most internationally important Italian wine companies.
The winery was founded in Soave in 1883 by Alberto Bolla who, when still a child, developed a passion for wine, spending much of his time in the cellar of his parents Abele’s and Giulia’s tavern “Al Gambero” until he decided to start selling the local white wine to other taverns in Soave. The idea paid off and soon he had business as far away as Verona and even Venice where he opened a restaurant in 1902 with his brothers near the church of San Salvatore.
The 1930s marked a turning point for Bolla coinciding with the arrival in the company of Alberto’s oldest son, Giorgio, oenologist and admirer of wines of excellence. In 1931 when he understood the potential of the territory for producing quality red wines, Alberto opened a winery in Pedemonte in the heart of the Valpolicella Classica zone. Thus started the production of reds such as Recioto, Valpolicella and subsequently Amarone, in addition to the already renowned Soave whites which were still being produced in the original winery.
In the following years, their market continued to expand both in Italy and abroad and particularly in the USA where the Bolla brand became an icon of Italian taste and style. It’s said that the legendary Frank Sinatra wouldn’t even sit down at a restaurant table if there wasn’t Soave Bolla in the wine list!
Gruppo Italiano Vini completed the acquisition of the company in 2006 with the aim of preserving the values handed down by the various generations of the Bolla family based on quality, passion and respect for the territory.
